I’m a highly experienced former university Lecturer in Law who has dedicated nearly a decade to teaching, assessing, and supervising research across the full spectrum of legal education. This experience was acquired at the University of Lancashire (formerly the University of Central Lancashire) and as a sessional teacher at Liverpool John Moores University. Today, I bring that deep, practical, and academic knowledge directly to you in our 1-to-1 tutorials.
My teaching experience has covered undergraduate (LLB), postgraduate (GDL, LLM), and former professional routes, including the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Professional Skills Course (PSC) for trainee solicitors. Over the course of my academic career, I taught, examined, and supervised research in an extensive range of subjects. These included academic foundations like Criminal Law, Evidence, International Law (including International Human Rights Law and International Labour Law), and Employment and Discrimination Law. I also instructed and examined students in core professional knowledge and practice areas, such as Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation, and General Commercial Law.
Furthermore, I provided specialist instruction in Advocacy and Communication Skills and Financial and Business Skills for trainee solicitors. The latter covered SRA Financial Services Scope and Conduct of Business Rules, the SRA Code of Conduct for Solicitors, and money laundering regulations. Beyond core curricular activities, I designed and taught a professional arbitration programme, delivered expert witness training, and led extracurricular classes focused on courtroom examination and witness handling techniques.
This blend of academic rigour and practical focus underpins all my tutoring.
My formal education provides the bedrock for my instruction. I hold a Master of Studies (MSt) in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford, where I graduated with Distinction. Prior to this, I completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Bar (BPTC) to a Very Competent Standard at Manchester Metropolitan University. I began my legal studies with a First Class Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB) from the University of Lancashire, where my performance earned me the Oxford University Press Prize for Outstanding Performance in EU Law and the Maxwell Prize for Best Final Year Performance.
My legal experience extends beyond academia into direct professional consultancy practice and international advocacy.
I have worked as an in-house consultant for a large human resources company, where I was responsible for defending corporate clients in UK employment tribunal proceedings, managing a complex caseload that included legal research, drafting detailed particulars of defence, negotiating settlements, and engaging with tribunals. I handled a comprehensive range of claims, from unfair dismissal to matters under the Equality Act 2010 and TUPE.
I also serve as one of four founding directors of an international human rights NGO, based in Switzerland, which holds special consultative status with the United Nations. I bring to it my deep knowledge of international legal frameworks concerning emerging technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence), as well as slavery and human trafficking.
Notably, in 2015, I participated in a crucial process of international advocacy by making oral representations to the UN Human Rights Committee on the right to life and climate change. This work played a key role in the Committee’s landmark decision to recognise States' obligations to protect the right to life from environmental threat—a significant change in the interpretation of a major global treaty. My current research focuses on the potential human rights impacts, risks, and opportunities posed by contemporary and future AI systems.
I look forward to bringing this depth of experience to your personalised tutorials.
