The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) is a rigorous centralised assessment requiring both deep legal knowledge and applied practical skills. I provide highly focused, one-to-one tutorials designed to prepare you for the SQE, helping you successfully navigate both the theoretical and practical stages of the qualification.
My tutorials are open and welcoming to all aspiring solicitors, whether you are:
New to Law: For those of you starting from the foundational concepts needed for SQE1 with no prior legal qualification.
Law Graduates or Seasoned Professionals: For those who already have an LLB, GDL, or substantial professional/paralegal experience, these sessions offer focused training to build the skills required to confidently tackle the SQE's Single Best Answer (SBA) MCQs and practical skills assessments
All SQE tutorials are conducted online, offering maximum flexibility and convenience as you balance your work and study commitments.
Candidates receive instruction from a tutor with established professional training experience. I previously served as a university Law Lecturer, where I taught and examined trainee solicitors on the former professional qualification route. This experience includes specialist instruction on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the Professional Skills Course (PSC). My direct knowledge of professional legal education ensures that my SQE tutorials are anchored in current legal practice and assessment standards.
SQE1 assesses Functioning Legal Knowledge (FLK) through a challenging format of Single Best Answer Multiple-Choice Questions. My preparation is therefore dual-focused: building your legal knowledge and mastering the essential exam technique.
I provide instruction on the core subjects required for FLK1 and FLK2, ensuring you achieve a clear understanding of the principles of the Law of England and Wales.
I help you develop the specific analytical skills required to decode complex, scenario-based questions, identify subtle distinctions between options, and consistently select the single best answer under strict time pressure.
SQE2 assesses practical legal skills, requiring you to perform tasks relevant to a trainee solicitor. My SQE2 preparation tutorials, therefore, place a strong emphasis on the core competencies needed to pass the skills assessments.
My SQE2 preparation currently concentrates on Advocacy, recognising its critical importance in both civil and criminal practice.
During these sessions we work to develop the essential skills for effective oral submissions. I focus on ensuring that you demonstrate appropriate language and behaviour, and that your submissions adopt a clear, logical structure for all applications to the court. The training emphasises the strategic integration of all key relevant facts to present a persuasive argument that engages the court appropriately, helping you achieve the polished, professional standard expected in both the Dispute Resolution and Criminal Litigation contexts.
While my immediate focus is Advocacy, SQE2 requires mastery across a range of skills, including Legal Writing, Legal Research, and Case Analysis. I plan to expand tutorial coverage to include these other crucial skills in the future.
My specialist SQE1 tutorials currently focus on the foundational subjects of:
Contract, Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU Law, Criminal Law and Practice, Dispute Resolution, the Legal System of England and Wales and Legal Services, and Tort. I am committed to providing thorough support in these core areas.
Tutorial coverage will be expanded to include all remaining SQE1 Functioning Legal Knowledge (FLK1 & 2) subjects in the future, with new subjects being prioritised according to student demand. I invite prospective students to contact me directly to discuss whether potential coverage for a non-listed SQE1 subject might be arranged.
In Contract Law tutorials, you set the agenda. We can cover the full scope of the subject—from the essentials of contractual formation and the classification of contractual terms, to scenarios where a contract is vitiated or discharged, and the common law and equitable remedies for breach. Alternatively, we can focus on specific areas where you need the most clarity.
In Constitutional and Administrative Law and EU Law, I'm here to cover exactly what you need. We can tackle the full breadth of the subject, including the fundamental relationship between state and citizen, the structure and powers of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, the impact of the Human Rights Act 1998, and the ongoing effect of assimilated European Union law. Alternatively, we can target specific, challenging topics you need to clarify for your upcoming assessments.
My Criminal Law and Practice tutorials are fully customised to your needs. We can focus on the substantive elements of major criminal offences and the general principles of liability, or we can shift the focus entirely to criminal procedure. This procedure coverage includes police station advice, pre-trial steps, and the conduct of cases in both the Magistrates' and Crown Courts. Just let me know which areas you need to prioritise.
Tutorials in Dispute Resolution are structured around your specific requirements. We can work on any stage of the process, from pre-action considerations and commencing or defending a claim, to the analysis of the merits of a claim or defence, case management, evidence, and the procedures relevant to costs. Simply specify which practice areas you want to concentrate on.
My tutorials can give you a full grounding in the English legal system or target specific gaps. We can cover the hierarchy and jurisdiction of the courts, the doctrine of binding judicial precedent, and the sources of primary and secondary legislation. Alternatively, we can focus on the professional regulatory framework, including the SRA Principles and Codes of Conduct governing solicitors. You choose the depth and focus for your session.
In Tort Law, my sessions can provide either a full subject review or a deep dive into specific areas. We can cover civil liability for core wrongs like negligence, nuisance, and trespass, and dedicate time to key concepts such as duty, causation, and breach. Alternatively, we can focus on evaluating complex factual scenarios or determining the appropriate remedies for injury or damage suffered, depending on your needs.
My current SQE2 tutorial focus is specifically on Advocacy. These tutorials concentrate on your ability to present a clear, persuasive, and legally sound argument in a professional setting, encompassing everything from structuring oral applications in a civil case (Dispute Resolution) to presenting effective submissions in a criminal matter (Criminal Litigation).
Tutorial coverage for other SQE2 skills will be expanded in the foreseeable future, with new practice skills being introduced based on student demand. I invite prospective students to contact me directly to discuss provision for instruction in other SQE2 areas, such as Legal Writing, Legal Drafting, and Case Analysis.
